From the invention of the movable type to the democratization of type-making software, the typographic industry has mutated countless times, but never did it so fast as in the XXI century. New font formats, commercial channels, licensing models, and the increasing need for high-quality global fonts have demanded companies to quickly adapt to survive. In this complex context, how can small indie foundries keep the pace? This is an opportunity to discuss the role of the modern type foundry, the challenges faced by independent companies, and the possibilities that open up for collaboration in the fields of global typography, education, and new media.
منذ اختراع الخط الطباعي المتحرّك، وحتى إتاحة برمجيات صنع الخط بشكل واسع وعام، عرفت الصناعة المطبعية تحوّلات متعددة، لعلّ اسرعها كان في القرن الحادي والعشرين، فقد حتّمت الأنواع الجديدة للخطوط والقنوات التجارية ونماذج الترخيص والحاجة المتزايدة للخطوط العالمية العالية الجودة على الشركات أن تتكيّف بسرعة لكي تستطيع الاستمرار في عملها. وفي هذا السياق المعقّد، كيف يمكن للمسابك المستقلة الصغيرة أن تحافظ على وتيرتها؟ تشكّل هذه المحاضرة فرصةً لمناقشة دور المسبك الحديث والتحديات التي تواجهها الشركات المستقلة، إلى جانب الإمكانيات اللامحدودة للتعاون في مجالات الطباعة العالمية والتعليم ووسائل الإعلام الجديدة.

Veronika Burian is a product and type designer running the international indie foundry TypeTogether with partner José Scaglione since 2006. She is one of the organisers of the Alphabettes mentorship program, co-chairwoman of the GRANSHAN project, co-curator/organiser of TypeTech MeetUp, and guest lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture and Design NTNU in Norway.
فيرونيكا بوريان مصمّمة ومنتجة خطوط طباعية، تدير مع شريكها جوزيه سكاغليوني المسبك الدولي المستقل TypeTogether منذ عام 2006، وهي واحدة من منظمي برنامج التدريب Alphabettes والرئيسة المشاركة لمشروع GRANSHAN. تشارك بوريان أيضا في تنسيق وتنظيم TypeTechMeetUp، كما انها استاذة محاضرة في كلية الهندسة المعمارية والتصميم في جامعة NTNU في النرويج.
